Justin and I had a pretty productive day yesterday: We started out at Men’s Wearhouse to pick out tuxedos for the guys, then spent the rest of the day visiting bakeries to gather some samples and also jewelry stores for our wedding bands. Let’s start with the bakeries!
Instead of having a wedding cake, we want to do a dessert table with a variety of tasty treats. We’re both not really into the whole cutting the cake tradition, so this route was more appealing to us. Plus, as the people at our venue pointed out, it can shorten the time guests have to sit at the tables and get people up and moving earlier — or, even better, dancing! So it seemed like a win-win all around.
Since we were already spending the day running around, I ended up doing my own little “tasting” by picking out a few goodies from three different shops around the city. But of course, my eyes were bigger than my stomach as I ended up with quite a lot of sweets. And since Justin doesn’t even like dessert, it was all for me!
The menu included: Cake balls, a vanilla macaroon and a red velvet cupcake from West Town Bakery; a lemon poppy seed macaroon, vanilla cake ball, German chocolate cupcake and banana chocolate cupcake from Alliance Bakery; and an Oreo cupcake, peanut butter chocolate bar, Butterfinger bar and another bar that had chocolate, coconut and nuts from Sensational Bites.
As you can see, Michael (the cat) filled in for Justin on this one, haha.
By the end of night, I was preeeetty stuffed. Everything was delicious, but there was one place that got a lot more “ooooo wow” and “oh my God” and “yummm” out of me than the rest. The winner was Sensational Bites, which is also located right by us on Southport Avenue. Now I know where to go whenever my sweet tooth strikes!
I’ll leave you with one more pic from Saturday. If anyone ever needs a demon soldier cake or a narwhal cake, I can point you in the right direction.

Love the photo of Michael! Enjoying a place at the dessert table is so in keeping with his personality. LOL ;)
