Earlier this month I went to a registry event at Crate & Barrel with one of my bridesmaids, Kristine. They closed the store to the public so couples — or friends, haha — could explore with no crowds and put together their registries. But let’s be honest. Kristine and I didn’t do anything productive. We munched on snacks, chit-chatted, walked around, chit-chatted, drank some delicious sparkling lemonade, and then chit-chatted some more.
So, now that I’m actually starting to work on the registry, I’m realizing I could use some help.
I browsed online for wedding registry checklists, but most of them aren’t especially helpful. It’s amazing how many items Justin and I had to google in order to figure out what they were. Here are just a few examples:
- Mortar & Pestle (“Ohhh, I just saw those at Marshall’s!”)
- Oil Mister
- Biscuit Cutters
- Ramekins
- Soup Tureen (“Just looked it up, and I already forgot what it is.”)
- Iced-tea Spoons (“They’re tall, for stirring!” Justin explains.)
- Pierced Tablespoon
- Fish Forks (“Sooo, forks?”)
- Fish Knives (“Sooo, knives?”)
- Hans Thyge and Akiko Kuwahata’s steel petanque set (“What are these? They’re kind of cool. I want them.”)
Anyway, I’d love to get your suggestions going forward as we continue to work on this project!
Married ladies: any advice on what you loved vs. what you wish you left off your list? Single ladies: can you think of any fun, non-traditional items to include? Guys: got any suggestions from the male perspective?
Feel free to post your thoughts in the comments below! Thanks! :)

A couple of thoughts:
– Avoid highly specific items, like those fish forks you were talking about. Multiple variations of the same item are also unnecessary (cereal bowls, soup bowls, salad bowls, ice cream bowls – you just need one set of regular bowls).
– Make sure you have room/space to store everything you register for. There are all kinds of cool serving dishes out there, but what’s the point if you have no where to put them or have to keep them in the attic.
– You can never have enough serving spoons. They never seem to make it home with you after a potluck.
– Don’t just think kitchen, bath, and bed. Consider things for your office, garage, etc. Also consider storage and organizational items (storage bins, baskets, etc.)
– One great gift we received and didn’t register for – a tool box full of tools.
Have fun!!!

Good tips, Kelly! Thanks!!!
I was sooo tempted to get those fancy, old fashioned ice cream sundae bowls, but I held back! Although I did end up with quite of lot serving dishes, so hopefully I will have room… haha
Also, speaking of leaving behind stuff at other people’s homes, our roof was leaking the other night so I ran to grab a big bowl, and I think it might yours from some party way back when! It’s blue on the outside and white on the inside.
