Countdown: Week 41

I’m officially 41 weeks today, even though the pregnancy app on my phone stopped counting. I wanted to see what size fruit the baby is now, like I would do for each new week, but the app apparently ended at 40 weeks (a jackfruit) with no further countdown. But I’m not done yet! Not fair!

I had another doctor’s appointment today and this time the baby dropped even lower (which explains why I was so darn sore all weekend) but I still was not dilated. I also still don’t have a set date for an induction. The hospital is apparently at capacity and I’ve been put on a waiting list. Meanwhile, I have another doctor’s appointment with an ultrasound on Thursday. At this point I am either waiting on a phone call from the hospital saying a spot opened up for me or I am waiting for actual labor to start. So the suspense continues!

After the doctor’s office, I stopped by TJ Maxx and for the first time bought baby girl and baby boy clothes. I figured I’m finally within range of their 30 day return policy so I’d be able to take back whatever clothes I won’t need!

The woman at the cash register asked me if it was a Christmas baby or a Thanksgiving baby. Huh? After she repeated the question, I told her, “Ohhh, I was due a week ago” and then thoroughly enjoyed her shocked reaction. Then she said to me, “Don’t they say to walk? Not shop.” I thought I was still getting my steps in, but touche …

Trying to induce labor the natural way, I played tourist the rest of the day and walked around Chicago sending Justin cheesy pictures of myself in front of all the popular sights. For some reason, I thought this was HILARIOUS and kept it up for hours. There must be something about becoming a mom that makes you lose the ability to feel embarrassed. (“You actually asked people to take your picture? Of just you?” Justin said.) Either that, or 41 weeks of being pregnant makes you go a little crazy.

By the time I got home, I logged 16,000 steps and 7 miles. Later that night I still felt ok and ended up joining Justin for Luc’s walk bringing the total to more than 8 miles and 19,000 steps. I’m hoping that will finally do the trick and get this party started!

My day in photos, including stops at Millennium Park, the Daley Center, the Riverwalk, Navy Pier and Portillo’s:
