Lost and Found

Well, it happened again.

Just as our wedding anniversary was approaching, Justin lost his wedding ring — for the second time.

The first time was only about a month after the wedding. If you recall, I ended up finding it a couple of weeks later in a bag of broccoli in the fridge, of all places!

This time around, he noticed it was gone one evening but wasn’t sure if it came off at some point at home or at work earlier that day.

My first response was: “Did you check the fridge?!”

He had, but unfortunately no luck there this time!

There was a bag of pretzels open on the counter so I dug around in there, but still no ring. Then I told him he should check the garbage, but he didn’t find anything there either.

After an unsuccessful search the first night, the next day I pressed him again on the trash can. He had looked in it the night before, but only half-heartedly. And I don’t blame him: The garbage was especially gross at that point — it was filled to the brim, including the remnants of a recent fish dinner as well as the juice from several cans of wet cat food. I certainly wouldn’t want to stick my hands in there!

But I just had this feeling that that’s where the ring was and kept on telling him to look through it harder. Eventually (and begrudgingly!), he took the bag outside, put on some rubber gloves and started digging.

Sure enough, down at the very bottom, he spotted something shiny — there was the ring!!

What a relief!!

Justin couldn’t believe how I was so sure it was going to be there and then that I was right. I just explained to him that this baby gives me super powers, duh!

Now, fast forward to today. I was getting ready to write this post and wanted to take a picture of Justin holding up the rescued ring. I’ll admit, I wanted to re-create it with the rubber gloves since I didn’t think to snap a photo when it actually happened. The journalist in me cringes at that thought, but I figured I should get a little more leeway on this blog!

So, as he started putting on the rubber gloves, I stopped him, saying, “Wait, don’t forget to take your ring off first.”

And then: “Wait, where’s your ring????”

It was gone!!

Again!!

We were both stunned. In trying to re-create the moment of finding his lost ring, we had discovered that he had actually lost it again — now, for the third time! Seriously?!?!

Justin had just prepped a bunch of stuff for dinner so right away he went to the fridge.

“Could it be in this?!” he said, pulling out a bowl of soupy batter that he mixed up for jalapeno corn cakes.

Diving his hands into the bowl, he fished around until he pulled out that little silver ring — rescued once more!

We’re just glad it was discovered before it ended up in one of our mouths!

(Real time photos — not a re-creation!)
