Feelin’ Big

I thought summer was going to be a great time to finish off the pregnancy because I already had so many comfortable, loose and flowy dresses that would be sure to fit a growing belly.

Boy, was I wrong!

There are so many things I thought would for sure still fit, and it’s not even close. Like the baggy drawstring capris I wore at my bachelorette party. Those will be perfect for this summer, I thought. Then I tried them on the other day and couldn’t pull them up past my thighs…. uhhh, what?!

Or take this dress, for example:

Yes, that was A DRESS on me before! A nice, roomy dress. And now it fits like a tank top. How is that possible?!?!

A few other times I’ve felt very pregnant:

+ When the seats seem to be shrinking when I go to concerts or other performances. This started a few months ago at a work event when I was totally cramped in a chair — could barely fit my arms in the space — and then looked at my dad, who was sitting next to me and swimming in his seat. Wait a second — what?!!? Turns out, my chair actually was smaller, but it was still a weird feeling. And I didn’t have that excuse a few weeks later when we went to Emily’s band concert. Again, I felt smushed in my spot and looked over at Michael to see him sitting comfortably with tons of room — in the exact same kind of chair, this time!

+ When my nephews wanted to get a soccer game going on Mother’s Day, and they picked teams “schoolyard” style. I was the last one chosen! Really?! Even behind Grandma?! Poor Jake got stuck with me on his team so he said, “Uhhh, Katie, why don’t you go be the goalie and you can just stand over there…” (I did still manage to score a goal as goalie, though! haha)

+ When I told the doorman at my office building that I still had two more months to go, and he asked if I was having twins. “No? That’s gonna be a big baby then!” he said. Gee, thanks…

+ When my doctor told me: “Some women can take on the extra calories just fine, but for others it can just stick more. You seem to be falling in the latter group.” Seriously? Not fair!

+ When I couldn’t sleep the other night so I found myself up at 5 a.m. researching anti-chafing maternity underwear on Amazon. (So glad I randomly thought of that! Wearing skirts/dresses is now infinitely more comfortable!)
