A couple of weeks ago I went to a week-long training program for work in Columbia, Missouri and so I was able to stay with brother Stevie and his family in Jefferson City. The timing coincided with spring break for my mom, my sister Emily, my sister Kelly and her boys, so they all got to come down to the lake for a visit, as well.
While we were all together one night, Kelly asked me if I had experienced “pregnancy brain” at all yet. She said she remembered saying some of the dumbest things to her husband when she was pregnant.
I couldn’t think of anything that striking (although maybe if Justin was there he would have had a different answer!)
“No, I don’t think so,” I said. “At least not yet!”
Fast-forward to just a few days later.
I was driving home from that same trip and needed to drop off the rental car once I got back to Chicago. The plan was for Justin to pick me up from the rental car place, and then we’d drive home.
Once I got there, I snagged a spot on the street near Hertz and called to let him know there was a spot behind me but that he should hurry because it was kinda crazy and might be gone soon.
A few minutes later he called me, saying he didn’t see me anywhere. Knowing how bad he is at directions, I repeated that I was in front of Walmart, which is next to a parking garage, which is next to Hertz.
“I’m by the movie theater,” he said.
“Movie theater?! What movie theater?!” I said. “It goes Hertz, parking garage, then Walmart. I’m in front of the Walmart.”
More confusion ensued. He said there were no other cars around — all open spots. But it was jam-packed by me.
Growing more and more irritated, I got outside the car and walked in front of the Hertz.
“Do you see me now?!” I said. “I’m literally right in front of Hertz!”
Nope, nothing. He asked me about the address again.
“Are you sure you’re in the right place?” he said.
“I’m standing right in front of Hertz!” I yelled again. It was already a long day of driving — I wanted to get home already! “Where are you?!”
Then I paused. “Uhhhh, actually, hang on…. I’m in the wrong place. I’ll come to you.”
I hung up before even explaining.
Turns out, I was standing in front of a Sprint store — not Hertz.
I wasn’t even on the right street. I guess it was the yellow logo that threw me??
Oopsies!!!
